4. Research and Development (Science Museum) GDE740.pdf

Overview

The digitised objects from The Science Museum's physical archive is published in an online searchable database. However, discovering these objects relies on audiences knowing what the museum has to offer, and that they search with the same terms that the Science Museum use. At the moment, users use the website to find the answer to a question, rather than as a tool for discovery.

In order to encourage exploration and meaningful browsing, a visually-based interface / discovery tool / visualisation should be developed. A successful solution should consider audience needs, and convey dense information without relying on audiences reading anything closely.

The design solutions could be interactive, built, animated, machine generated “computer vision” tags, storyboarded or presented as a series of proposed designs.
